Restoration is a chance to contemplate several centuries of watchmaking and to understand, then to master, the technical subtleties of the mechanisms created by our forefathers. While restoration has always been, above all, a fountain of knowledge to Michel Parmigiani, it has also been an exceedingly rich source of inspiration for the creations of the present. Within the Parmigiani Fleurier collection, there are several illustrious examples of watches which draw their founding idea from a masterpiece of the past and are therefore firmly rooted in a tradition of watchmaking which began centuries before their time.
The soul of Parmigiani Fleurier
When Michel Parmigiani was faced with the incredible opportunity to create a high-end watch brand which bore his name, he was restoring the mechanical marvels of the past. Restoration taught him everything: hundreds of years of horological knowledge, devotion to uncompromising craftsmanship, humility and respect for the majestic creations of our forefathers. It is restoration which, as the quartz crisis raged, gave him the confidence to realise his watchmaking dreams, proving to him that true skill can outlast any test of time; and, lastly, restoration was the reason for his meeting with the Sandoz family, who entrusted him with the care of their mechanical masterpieces, and thereby gave the brand its starting point. Restoration is, in so many ways, the soul of Parmigiani Fleurier and its guiding force.
